I’m Peter Sorenson – an experienced attorney, lawyer, and advocate, licensed to practice law for over 30 years. At my law firm, Sorenson Law Office, we specialize in matters under the federal Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA. The Freedom of Information Act was enacted in 1967 to provide any person the right to request access to records or information from any federal agency (with nine exemptions).

Joining the firm in 2022, Mr. Sanchez is a graduate of the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, where he earned and maintained a full academic scholarship. Mr. Sanchez received his Bachelors of Arts, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from Western Michigan University, where he majored in Sociology and double minored in Political Science and Applied and Professional Ethics. Mr. Sanchez is licensed to practice law in New York, where he was a public defender before having a solo criminal defense practice. Mr. Sanchez enjoys winning FOIA cases and forcing government agencies to release records. He also enjoys playing his guitar and banjo when he is not winning FOIA cases.
SENIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT
With the firm since 2018, Business Manager and Senior Legal Assistant, Ms. Leval, brings 30 years of non-profit and executive background to our FOIA work. A creative writer of poetry and fiction, she is shopping her first historical novel to literary agents. She holds a BA in International Studies and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Oregon and a Master’s in Adult Education and Agricultural Extension from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. She resides in Eugene, Oregon, with her husband, Pete Sorenson, and their yellow Lab puppy, Goldie. Pastimes: spending time with family and friends, forest bathing, hiking, gardening, traveling, and sharing good food.
Ms. Mendez joined the firm in 2021 as a full-time Legal Assistant. She earned a BA in Psychology and minored in Ethnic Studies and Legal Studies at the University of Oregon. She studied abroad in Argentina focusing on Human Rights and Transitional Justice. She resides in Eugene, Oregon with her fiancè and their adorable cat, Sophia. Ms. Mendez advocates for clean eating and sustainable and healthy living. She likes being out in nature walking (with their stroller-loving cat), hiking, relaxing by water and sunshine, traveling, being with friends, making desserts, reading mystery thrillers, and international series.
Joining the firm in 2020 as a Legal Assistant, Mr. Josephson is pursuing his JD (2024) at the University of Oregon (UO) School of Law. At the UO, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Planning, Public Policy, and Management (Cum Laude). Mr. Josephson lives in Eugene with his fiancée, Brayley Fleetwood. He enjoys running with his dog Forrest, playing violin, and cooking new meals for his friends and family. He also likes reading novels, watching movies, volunteering for community groups, and hiking trails throughout Oregon.
